Brian's Toy Box

This week I will be discussing the new Tri-Logo Palitoy Yoda (Orange Snake) AFA 70 that we received this week.

View Listing Here

This tri-logo Yoda was produced in 1984 and is a 70 Back-B.  The Yoda has the following subgrades: Card 75, Bubble 70, and figure 85.  Even though AFA did not claim the bubble was yellow I can see a small tint of yellow on the bubble.  The bubble received a 70 because it does have some dents, most of the dents can be seen on the top of the bubble.

The reason this piece has the premium price of $4,299.99 is the orange snake.  It is extremely rare to find a carded Tri-Logo Yoda with the orange snake.  You can commonly find the Tri-Logo Yoda with the brown snake, but the orange snake is going to make the figure much more valuable.  Not many Yoda’s with the orange snake were produced on the tri-logos.  In the 23 years Brian’s Toys has been in business I could count on one hand how many times we have had this figure in stock.  Doing a quick search on eBay there are plenty of brown snake tri-logo figures for sale but no orange snakes.

If you are serious collector this is a hard to find piece if you are trying to complete your collection.  You can e-mail sales@brianstoys.com if you have any further questions about the figure.  We also do payment plans!

Brian's Toy Box

It is a very sad week as we lost Carrie Fisher, the actress that played Princess Leia.  She suffered a heart attack last week on a plane and seemed to be in stable condition in the days after.  She then suffered a massive heart attack Tuesday at the age of 60 which unfortunately took her life.  The death shocked the world as she was a movie icon playing one of the most beloved princesses in the movie industry.

2016 has been a rough year taking so many great entertainers:  David Bowie, Harper Lee, Prince, Muhammad Ali, John Glenn, George Michael, and many more.  The Star Wars community has also been hit hard by losing 5 of their performers.  Carrie Fisher is the latest, but we have also lost Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Michael Leader (Stormtrooper), Drewe Henley (Red Leader), and Erik Bauersfeld (Admiral Ackbar/Bib Fortuna).

Word on the internet is that Carrie Fisher has already filmed her entire role for Star Wars Episode VIII.  There is also chatter that she has a larger role in Episode VIII, so even though we have lost a legendary actress we can get one last performance.

What I personally loved about Leia was her personality and the way she interacted with Han.  They had such a great relationship that many viewers could connect with.  The moment where Leia says “I love you” and Han says “I know” is a great scene that I will always remember from Empire Strikes Back.

May the force be with you always...

Rest in Peace

Brian's Toy Box

If I'm being honest with you, I was a little worried that Rogue One wouldn't be great as a stand-alone film. But after checking out the first local showing last night, I'm happy to say that there's no reason to worry; the movie is fantastic!

There were tons of positives to the film and ONLY a small handful of negatives, as there will be with any film. Overall, this is a great flick and I highly reccomend it to any Star Wars fan as well as the average movie goer. Below I will be discussing some of my favorite parts of the movie and my few critiques. Fair warning - SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!

There were too many great moments in Rogue One to cover them all in this post so I'll just highlight a few parts that really stuck with me after the credits rolled.

The Good

This is definitely a war film - I had heard rumors that Rogue One might be more of a heist movie, but I thought it was way better that it was a true war film. The action was, simply put... phenomenal. When you have AT-ACT Walkers in a beach setting, it makes everything just epic.

Everyone dies - Don't get me wrong; it's not that I think it's right that people die. But in the context of a war film, I do think it's more realistic and I love that this movie has a darker tone. War is horrible, bad things happen, but there is always hope that good will prevail. Having so many of the main characters die just gives a certain authenticity and honor to the Rebel cause. We get a great taste of this early in the film when Cassian Andor kills his Rebel comrade to avoid giving away his position to the Stormtroopers patrolling Jedha.

K-2SO - This reprogrammed Imperial Droid was off the hook! He had the best lines, he played a pivotal role in the most dramatic scenes, and he was one of the more powerful characters. I was actually sadder to see this droid's life end than any of the other characters. Out of the entire Star Wars universe, this is now my favorite droid. Bravo!

The final scene with Darth Vader - I was in awe during the entire final scene with Vader. This was definitely the first time we've seen the legendary Vader actually show why he is the most feared Sith lord in the galaxy. He was a ruthless machine, slicing and dicing his way through Rebel Fleet Troopers to get to the Death Star plans. The troopers, realizing that they had no chance of resisting Vader, pass the plans through the door like a baton. We also get to see LEIA! The way this movie transitioned directly into A New Hope couldn't have been more exciting. You could watch Rogue One, skip the credits, and start up ANH without missing a beat.

The Bad (or the Could Be Better)

Although Rogue One ends up being great, it's definitely slower at the beginning and takes a while to the plot moving.

K-2SO was probably the only character I would call EXTREMELEY memorable. I'm not saying that I didn't like Chirrut Imwe or Baze Malbus, just that it's difficult to get too attached with the limited backstories of those characters. Along the same line, I was rattles that they didn't show more of Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker). He reminded me of the good Darth Vader, with his breathing apparatus and mechanical legs. Could have used more SAW!

I could keep going on and on about all the good parts of Rogue One and nitpick a few other bad things, and I do think I'll see it again within the next week to find things I might have missed, but twelve hours after seeing it I'm ready to put it in my top three list of Star Wars films. This may change in the future, but for now I'm still very impressed!

I'll be taking a break from writing the blog next week during my holiday vacation. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Brian's Toy Box

This week I'm bringing you the Brian's Toys exclusive Vintage-Style Jocasta Nu action figure. Back in 2012, we teamed up with Hasbro to create our first exclusive collectible, every Star War fan’s favorite librarian, Jocasta Nu. A limited number of these figures were created and they're almost completely sold out!

$59.99

This Jocasta Nu was designed and produced after fans expressed their desire for a brand new character action figure. The people spoke and Hasbro listened! While widely known for her a small role in Attack of the Clones, Jocasta Nu also made several appearances in the Clone Wars animated TV series.

Not only is this figure unique because it is the only Jocasta Nu toy on the market, but the accessories and packaging also make this piece a must have for collectors. The outer packaging was designed to resemble the holocron vaults which really brings Jocasta Nu's signature scene from Attack of the Clones to life. Another cool bonus to this figure is the variety of accessories. These include an unlit lightsaber hilt, a lit lightsaber, a battle bag with string closure, and, best of all, a bust of Count Dooku. This bust also has a built-in surprise, it conceals a holocron cube that's revealed when you take it off of it's column.

For an even better look into the details of this fantastic action figure, check out the Youtube video review we made when it was originally released.

Check in next week and I will discuss the new Rogue One movie and our 12 Days of Christmas sale and specials.
